Why I Dread Shopping for Plus-Sizes

Remember those word problems from grade-school math? I've got one for you (and no one has 40 oranges):

How many out of the 400 stores at the destination American Dream mall, which is the 2nd biggest mall in America with more than 3 million square feet of space, are focused on the 65% of Americans who wear plus sizes and have more than $40 billion in buying power?

I went on a shopping quest with Morning Brew reporter Andrew Adam Newman to find the answer.

What's your guess?

Three? No. Two? Nope. One??

Bullseye.

Out of 400 stores, I could only find something that fit me at one. single. store. This shows how far retailers have to go when it comes to serving this often ignored audience.

If plus-size consumers can't find a simple shirt at your store, or a sturdy chair in your hotel, or an open kayak at your river tour, that's over 225 million Americans who can't spend money with you.

Are you leaving 225 million people out of your 2025 business strategy?
